I heart Andy

Once Urban Outfitters got a hold of Andy Warhol then the frenzy was at its peak. You couldn't walk 5 steps without seeing Warhol bags, keychains, stationery, blah blah blah. I bet he was laughing his butt off somewhere due to the irony of it all. His study of the corporate image became...tada! A corporate image.

But...I still love Andy. I have a very special place in my heart reserved for his whimsical paintings. They were so far ahead of his time that it's almost freakishly bizarre to look at them now. This was painted WHEN?

I love his cats named Sam:

I love his delicious ice creams:

Love his bugs:

But my favorite is his fabulous pink wild raspberry print!:

You can find all of these at art.com for cheap cheap cheap!

Life is a Cabaret!

Let's face it, women have beautiful legs. More than 120 years ago, when the Moulin Rouge opened, graphic posters of women's legs littered the streets of Paris.

Today, I still see them everywhere. Legs have made a bit of a comeback I suppose. I'm definitely not complaining - it's a beautiful shape to use as a graphic element! Here are a few of my faves - vintage and new:

{ vintage Cabaret poster, Super Furry Animals poster by Methane Studios, not quite sure about this one, vintage cover of french Le Frou-Frou magazine, vintage CanCan poster, Sharon Jones poster by Methane Studios, Sonic Youth poster by Spike Press, Cameo Lounge logos by Werner Design Works}

Here is my "cabaret" interpretation into an invitation:

Bjorn Wiinblad - Modern Danish

LOVE this designer from Denmark. He was a poster designer in Paris in the 40s and then worked until the late 80s. I stumbled across him on the lovely world wide web (upon realizing that I probably have been living in a hole if I've never heard of the guy) and spent way too much time finding as many pieces as I could. Not only did he design some fantastic posters, he also designed dishware, vases, and other household goodies.

The use of color alone fires me up, but the combination of whimsy and sophistication is downright genius. I think I might bid on one of his posters on ebay RIGHT NOW!!!

I think I might be in love. I mean WOWZA! By the way, 3 of these beauties can be found on etsy at gigimari. And there's tons more!
